Sunday June 3rd 10:00am - 5:00pm with Lunch break

Using Norman Fischer's translations of psalms, Opening to You: Zen-inspired Translations of the Psalms, we will contemplate these great ancient poems as a template for spiritual practice. Most of the day will be spent in silent sitting and walking meditation,guided meditation and learning. Come joins us for teaching from Norman Fischer, guest teacher R.Aubrey Glazer and Rabbi Dorothy Richman, as they led us in opening out the psalms to touch our hearts.

This day long retreat includes silent sitting and walking meditation, contemplative prayer, chanting and teachings and discussion.

No previous experience with meditation, Hebrew, or prayer is necessary.

About Makor Or: Founded January 1, 2000 by Rabbi Alan Lew (z"l) and Norman Fischer, the Jewish meditation practice of Makor Or incorporates sitting and walking meditation, and Jewish chant. Our mission is to bring the clarity and depth of meditation practice to our Jewish life and observance, to facilitate the transformation that Judaism can effect in our lives.

Norman Fischer is the spiritual leader of Makor Or. He is also a Zen master, founder of Everyday Zen and a poet. His books include, Jerusalem Moonlight, Taking Our Places, Sailing Home and The Strugglers.

Rabbi Dorothy A. Richman serves as the rabbi of Makor Or. She is a Master Educator leading Kevah Torah study groups, teaching widely in the Bay Area. She has served as rabbi for Berkeley Hillel, Sha'ar Zahav and Congregation Beth Sholom with her mentor Rabbi Alan Lew(z"l).

Aubrey L. Glazer, Ph.D. (University of Toronto) rabbi of Congregation Beth Sholom, San Francisco. His publications include a reflection on contemporary spirituality, Mystical Vertigo (2013) and a study on the intersection of Jewish mysticism and Rinzai Buddhism in the songbook of Leonard Cohen, Tangle of Matter & Ghost .
